Task 3
The two digitally published products I have decided to analyse would be the “Flatbush Zombies” website and the “Hello!” e-magazine. I have decided to analyse both products because although they both include different font types and different styles of writing there are also some similarities between them as well.
Hello’s e-magazine is an overview of this week’s ups and downs within celebrity lives with added stories of “ordinary” people’s lives as well. The sole purpose of this e-magazine is to inform the audience whilst also entertaining them. They do this through stories and images relating to the story. The “Flatbush Zombies” website however is purely to inform their audience of their new music, merchandise and tour dates. They present their website through a dark colour layout, large images of their new mixtape and interactive media links so you are able to follow them on social Medias.
Hello’s e-magazines uses 3rd person to talk to its audience. This is because they are talking to you about other people. This gives the e-magazine a formal tone which could be beneficial for the product. I say this because when we are spoken to with a formal tone we immediately associate it with authority and independence. This is important for the e-magazine because it makes it seem as if it knows what it is talking about it which makes the e-magazine appear trustworthy. The e-magazine also uses an informal tone too sometimes. This is because the e-magazine needs to appear “approachable”. I say approachable because the e-magazine needs to come off as if it’s your best friend when you read it because the audience wants to feel as if they can confined in it. Some examples of this would be “The best nail art ideas for summer” and “Abusive messages from fans keep me up at night”.
For the Flatbush Zombies website they use 2nd person to talk to their audience. This is because unlike the e-magazine, they’re telling you what to do. For example, "Listen to the new single" and "order now". This could have a positive outcome but could also have a negative outcome too. I say this because some of the audience may think that it's quick and simple and tells you what you need to do without being over the top. Although, some of the audience may see it as that they're being bossy and demanding. This could also drive the audience away from doing what they are told.
The type of writing used to create the Hello e-magazine includes a large header in san-serif for the title of the e-magazine, medium sized letters for the sub-headers and then smaller writing (aprox. 14) for the blocks of writing underneath. We can see that the title is in all capital letters as well. This could suggest that they want the e-magazine to stand out and be seen so that they can draw in a larger audience. The all over san-serif writing could also suggest to us that they want the e-magazine to come across as professional and simple so that the audience takes the e-magazine more seriously.
The Flatbush Zombies website includes typefaces that are serif and san-serif. The mix of these two types of fonts makes the website more interesting to look at and keeps the audience's attention on the website and the writing. The header also uses a serif type face and that makes it unique and stands out so that when the audience sees it, they are intrigued by it which then makes them want to go in and look at the website even more.
The Hello e-magazine is laid out with a portrait structure meaning that as you look at the website you must scroll down to continue reading it. Having the web page portrait also helps the e-magazine resemble the physical Hello magazine. It is important that the web page and the physical magazine have some resemblances to each other because it then appears that the magazine and e-magazine are in sync with each other. The Hello e-magazine also includes 3 columns that they put their stories in. Having their best and most interesting stories in the middle because those are what people tend to look at first. The least interesting stories go around the outside of the website so that they are still in the audiences view but not as much as the middle stories. The pages on this e-magazine are not numbered unlike the original magazine although at the top of the page there are links that you can click that will take you to other pages.
Similarly to the Hello e-magazine layout the Flatbush Zombies website is also portrait. Although that is where the similarities stop as the website doesn’t include columns, page numbering and pull out quotes. However the website does include a large landscape video that goes across the top half of the page. The video changes daily and goes in chronological order from their album.

Summary
Each product here shows how journalism can be used in
different ways to portray different techniques to equate to different outcomes.
One example of this would be the leaflet. Leaflets are designed to inform you
about a product or event but to also persuade you to go to the event or to buy
the product. Although on the other hand the purpose of an E-book would be to
make reading easy and accessible from anywhere.
